Classification

Brachycyrtinae

of the Afrotropical Region

(Life: Kingdom: Metazoa (animals); Phylum: Arthropoda; Class: Hexapoda; Order: Hymenoptera;  Superfamily: Ichneumonoidea; Family: Ichneumonidae)

Brachycyrtinae Viereck, 1919.

Brachycyrtus Kriechbaumer, 1880

Distribution

Kenya, Madagascar, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Also worldwide.

Biology

Solitary ectoparasitoid of cocooned pupae and prepupae of Chrysopidae (Neuroptera) (Rao 1953, Townes et al. 1960, Carlson 1979, Kusigemati 1981, Higa 1983, Gauld 2000). Could either be idiobiont or koinobiont parasitoids (Bennett 2009), although phylogenetic evidence in combination with the toothed ovipositor suggests they are idiobiont ectoparasitoids (Broad et al. 2018, Di Giovanni & Varga, 2021).
