A high
resolution video camera attached to the microscope lens takes a
photograph of the specimen at each focal plane. These images are fed
to a computer where the stacks of images (anywhere between 5 and 20
images depending on how small the specimen is) are combined into a
single in focus image by a computer algorithm. This process results
in a fully focused high magnification image of the specimen.
