Biology

Host unknown.

Distribution

Réunion.

Diagnosis

The dimensions of the first five flagellomeres are similar to those of species in the subgenus C. (Baculonus). This is the main character separating this species from its closely related species C. (M.) matilei. See C. matilei for additional comments. The two paratypes housed in the MNHN collections (box 45, under the label Chelonus spinosus Sigwalt) have probably been studied by the late Dr Sigwalt, but he never published the description (Braet et al., 2012).

Etymology

Derived from “merdicus” which is an entomological term in Reunion referring to any small insect (Braet et al., 2012).
