Syntretus massale Rousse & Braet

(Life: Kingdom: Metazoa (animals); Phylum: Arthropoda; Class: Hexapoda; Order: Hymenoptera;  Superfamily: Ichneumonoidea; Family: Braconidae; Subfamily: Euphorinae: Genus: Syntretus)

Syntretus massale Rousse & Braet, 2012. Holotype in Muséum National d’Hitoire Naturelle, Paris (MNHN). Type locality: La Réunion, Ste Suzanne, Forêt Dugain, 860m.

Classification

Syntretus_massale_Holotype_MNHN

Diagnosis

Distinguished by the shining and almost entirely smooth body, and the strongly developed laterotergites on metasoma. The smooth propodeum and the overlapping laterotergites place this species within the extreme variation of the genus as recognized by van Achterberg and Haeselbarth (2003). Theses character states  also denote an interesting convergence towards the tiny Australian genus Syntretoriana Parrot (Rousse & Braet, 2012).

Biology

Solitary enparasitoids (koinobiont) of adult Hymenoptera (Ichneumonidae and Apidae).

Distribution

Reunion.
