Distribution

Afrotropical region.

Biology

Two species are potential crop pests. Larvae of Xenapates braunsi feed on Poaceae: Digitaria horizontalis Willdenow (Jamaican crabgrass), Pennisetum purpureum Schumacher (elephant grass), Setaria barbata (Lamarck) Kunth (bristly foxtail grass), Zea mays Linnaeus (maize). Larvae of Xenapates gaullei feed on Commelinaceae: Commelina benghalensis Linnaeus (Bengal dayflower) and C. communis Linnaeus (Asiatic dayflower) (Liston et al. 2015).
